Hello, my name is Larry Humphries and am the author of Lawrention.ca. I'm a born-again Christian and grew up in the city of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada.
Although I've had various types of jobs throughout the years, I've worked as an electrician for the greater part of my life. It never really occurred to me in years gone by, that I should have been more focused upon illuminating people rather than buildings. Hence, the reason for this website.
My beliefs are based upon the fact that Jesus Christ is the true son of God, was crucified, and rose three days later. He did this for all people(s) on earth, and not just a select few. Although I was raised Baptist and am comfortable with this fact, I will say that a relationship with Jesus is much more important than any man-made religion.
As we read through the book of Genesis, and when Adam and Eve were alive - there was no mention of religion whatsoever. At least not until they had both sinned. All they had to do was obey one law, which was not to eat of the tree of good and evil. It was that simple. It was God's intent from the very beginning to have a relationship with us - not religion.
Once I began to understand the will of God (through my own relationship with Jesus) - most of the underlying anxiety or ill-will which I held towards any specific religion, didn't seem to be that important any longer. I like the way that our Pastor describes the multitude of religions. He says something to the affect that they're similar as to how people organize the furniture within their house. Everyone does it differently.
The science within the Bible I find is quite intriguing; particularly how the earth was created. My interests often gravitate towards the sciences and technical aspects, regardless of the topic.
From a religious perspective, I'll admit that there's certain parts of the Bible that I just don't understand. I could be wrong, but I get the impression that a lot of the stuff that we do for the sake of religion is not really necessary. Nonetheless, due to our ignorance God accepts it.
That being said, out of respect and remembrance for Jesus dying on the cross for our sins, I feel that there are some religious ceremonies which are quite important. In particular, communion and baptism.
One of the passages that I had a difficult time understanding, was about a man of God that was performing a ceremony to sanctify a particular tract of land. As I was reading this, I could feel Jesus presence in the room. So, I just asked him. What's this all about? He replied back to me through the spirit, and said something like this: "It's similar to re-painting a house with neutral colours before you move in". I thought about it for a moment or two, then it made perfect sense.
I would like to leave you now with a few promises from God which will lift your spirits. These are from the New International Version of the Bible. If you wish to read my perspective on the various versions of the Bible, you can see it here.
