Greetings everyone, so glad that you could be here, and thank-you for your interest in the Book of Daniel.
Daniel is likely my most favorite book of the Bible. What follows herein, is the latest interpretation of the Lion from Daniel chapter-seven which leads directly to current times.
This particular letter is an introduction to Daniel chapter-seven, and unveils an interpretation for the Beast referred to as the Lion. This next series of newsletters from Daniel chapter-seven could essentially be a book in itself, so I've attempted to streamline it as much as possible. I plan to follow up with the remaining Beasts of this chapter right shortly.
Daniel chapter-seven, is a deep and integrate topic that encompasses an historic-timeline beginning in 1593. This was the year in which the Dutch Republic kicked off the world's first modern industrial-revolution. As a consequence, Daniel's prophetic story which began in 1593 continues to this very day.
The passage below is the one which we are focusing on within this newsletter.
NIV, Daniel 7: (1) In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying in bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream. (2) Daniel said: “In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. (3) Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea. (4) “The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a human being, and the mind of a human was given to it.
The narrative of this Daniel-chapter-seven kicks off in the year 1593 within the Dutch Republic.
The "four winds of heaven churning up the great sea" in verse two; was a time in history when the Dutch developed and patented technology which allowed them to mechanically-couple automated saw-mills with wind-mills. As a result, they soon began to cut planks of lumber about thirty-times faster than what would have otherwise been possible (via manpower).
This new technology triggered a number of ship-building ventures which later morphed into the Dutch United East India Company VOC (Verenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) in year 1602. Hence, in a relatively short amount of time - the Dutch Republic became a world-renowned ship-building and trading hub.
If you wish to follow up with this story, here is a link to the Dutch narrative within prophecy.
Likely the dominant theme of using the Lion to describe this Beast, is due to its explosive power as an apex predator. Whereas some species track down their prey by outrunning them, that's not the way of the Lion. Lions explosively attack their prey at close range, since they tire easily while on the run.
NIV, Daniel 7: (3) Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea. (4) “The first was like a lion, and it had the wings of an eagle. I watched until its wings were torn off and it was lifted from the ground so that it stood on two feet like a human being, and the mind of a human was given to it.
Heraldry represents the spiritual essence of nations and empires.
In other words, beasts of heraldry represent their country's character. Heraldry is commonly displayed within a country's coat of arms. Through heraldry, this Beast the Lion which is synonymous with explosive power - represents the following empires while the United States was being colonized.
Through a number of years leading up to North America being colonized by the Europeans; there were numerous battles on the high-seas between the Dutch, Great Britain, and Spain. Each of these great Empires later created formidable settlements on North-American soil. As examples; New Spain, New Netherland, and New England were created.
Once on North-American soil, Spain dominated Mexico and territories of certain modern-day states, which included California and Texas. In contrast, the Dutch and Great Britain dominated settlements upon the east coast.
Now, I realize that I’m overly simplifying the matter, but in order to follow Scripture, I believe it was basically a contest between these three empires as Europeans began to populate North-America. These Empires were represented by the Lion in heraldry as it states in verse four. Since the lion represents explosive power; verse-four insinuates nations of military-might in order for this process to occur.
Further, in verse three it states that these four great beasts came up out of the sea. The sea itself represents salt-water. Salt-water is a mix of fresh-waters obtained from various rivers and streams around the world. So, "from the sea", is a phrase that can have a number of connotations.
I believe that this phrase represents varying technologies and people-groups from around the world. So basically, "came up out of the sea" - is a phrase that represents a mix of culture and technology which made its way to North-American soil. The three distinct empires that I made mention of earlier, are merely an easy way to follow the narrative at hand. The heraldry of Bermuda, which also uses the lion - is a case in point.
In prophecy, the Eagle represents something that was ordained by God. By foregoing the common route of survival-of-the-fittest, I understand that eagles did not have to scratch and claw their way to the top of the food chain. Evolution-wise, there was no real purpose for having eagles fly above all other creatures. Moreover, what they feed upon is not within the sky, it's on the ground. So in the Book of Daniel, these eagle's wings on the Lion are a sign of God's grace.
I believe that due to these empire's Christian faith, God ordained all three in order to populate North America. Although these historical-empires were certainly not perfect as history will attest (along with the rest of mankind); Christians usually accept those of Jewish-faith. Currently, the number of Jewish descendants in North America rival the number of Jews in Israel itself.
Further, since Lions are from the feline family, they aren't too fond of water. All three of these Lion nations ran out of steam (and riches) while crossing the ocean. They could not dominate North America for extended periods of time while retaining security on their home-turf.
In Daniel 7:3, it states that these beasts "came up out of the sea". In later verse seventeen, it states that these beasts are kings that will "rise from the earth". So there was a progression of this Beast which came from the ocean down to the earth (North America) and then later rose upwards.
In centuries gone by, it was common for kings and queens to receive taxes directly (or a fraction thereof) from citizens; whereas today, world-leaders may be given a salary with an expense account. Prophetically, in order to figure out who these kings of the world are - we need to merely follow the money.
There are not many kings and queens around any longer; or at least - not to the extent there once was. The kings and queens of today are made of modern technology. Consider how the world's money is siphoned into today's technology, which also includes the might of the military machine.
In Daniel 7:4, its speaks of this Beast being given the "mind of a human". In other biblical versions, this phrase is "a man's heart". Now, I've always interpreted this verse as describing computer technology; whereas mankind can either program or use a computer, based upon what's in their heart and mind. Recently however, it dawned on me that there could perhaps be a much deeper meaning.
Since verse-four is still speaking about the aggressive Lion, it's likely that the underlying theme here is still explosive weaponry. So, could the two feet, the heart and the mind; actually be humans? And could the associated explosive weaponry be referring to firearms and automatic weapons? If this was the case, then the aggressive Beast (Lion) would be all of the firearms, and the so described man's body parts.... are actually men themselves. So here, a man carrying an explosive-weapon is considered to be a beast. However, that was not God's intent when he created man! This is certainly a concept worth pondering.
Nonetheless, I believe that this verse-four is speaking about a time in history of automation and the arrival of computers. Note that a computer's main-processor beats away like an extremely fast-ticking clock, similar to a persons beating heart.
The primary theme of the prophetic Lion is its explosive power. This was basically an era of time from 1593 to 1953 (years explained below) when modern weaponry circumvented the globe from one continent to another. This occurrence was due to not only the weapons themselves; but, also from the tremendous number of trading-ships which navigated the globe.
This Lion-era was a time when many wars ensued, including those listed below. This list is by no means comprehensive, as there were many, many, skirmishes during this period of just under four-centuries long. Notably, the two world-wars are in this list.
The years 1952 and 1953 represent a time in our history when the most-devastating ever, explosive type of weapon was invented; the thermonuclear bomb. Now although there were certainly wars after 1953, there has not been a nuclear bomb deployed against humans which I'm aware. Neither a world-war for that matter.
Significance of Years 1593 and 1953 (numbers 360 and 666)
These two significant years in history were given to me by the Lord, so I'm quite confident on dates. Intriguingly, the individual digits of both of these year's numbers add up to eighteen. Eighteen divided by three equal parts, gives us three sixes: 666. Since God uses the number six to identify mankind - this is the equivalent of stating: man-man-man.
Further, the difference between 1953 and 1593 is three-hundred and sixty, which represents a perfect circle. So, from my perspective; this scenario of this Beast the Lion - represents a complete era of time that ended in 1953 due to the advent of the computer. From this stance, explosive-weaponry was no longer the King of the Earth - since the focus shifted from spending money on nukes and the like to money being funneled into computers and equipment that's intertwined with automation.
Significant for the year 1953, was the fact that the two technologies of random access memory and automated floating-point calculations were realized during this year. Further, IBM began distributing the first mass-produced computers which were profitable; the IBM 650 (Magnetic Drum Data-Processing Machine).
From what I understand from the Lord... he will hold-up mankind's knowledge (technology) for a certain period of time in order to satisfy his cleverly-scripted plan. If it was strictly up to mankind - the nuclear bomb would have been invented much earlier in history. God will delay mankind's knowledge until the time is right.
It seems obvious to myself, that often-times weaponry is our first consideration as a new-technology is being introduced.
An underlying component of Daniel chapter-seven, is that as technology advances and gets repeatedly set-upon a pedestal by mankind - our human status naturally declines. Our worth compared to an automated-machine has certainly become obvious from an employer's point of view. So, through the process of time - mankind has basically been handing over the keys-to-the-kingdom to all of our weapons and technology.
As a result of this unfortunate situation, certain technologies are now "kings of earth". This scenario is essentially the root-cause as to why our personal-wages are continually diminishing in value. Again, this was not God's intention, but was due to mankind's foolishness.
There are instances in the Bible where Gold is highly associated with both Kings and Lions.
David's son Solomon was the richest men who had lived until that time in history; the following passage describes his riches. Take notice of the twelve lions which were parked beside his throne. Curiously, his yearly salary alone was six-hundred and sixty-six talents of gold.
NIV, First Kings 10: (14) The weight of the gold that Solomon received yearly was 666 talents, (15) not including the revenues from merchants and traders and from all the Arabian kings and the governors of the territories.
(16) King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of gold went into each shield. (17) He also made three hundred small shields of hammered gold, with three minas of gold in each shield. The king put them in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon.
(18) Then the king made a great throne covered with ivory and overlaid with fine gold. (19) The throne had six steps, and its back had a rounded top. On both sides of the seat were armrests, with a lion standing beside each of them. (20) Twelve lions stood on the six steps, one at either end of each step. Nothing like it had ever been made for any other kingdom. (21) All King Solomon’s goblets were gold, and all the household articles in the Palace of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Nothing was made of silver, because silver was considered of little value in Solomon’s days. (22) The king had a fleet of trading ships at sea along with the ships of Hiram. Once every three years it returned, carrying gold, silver and ivory, and apes and baboons.
(23) King Solomon was greater in riches and wisdom than all the other kings of the earth. (24) The whole world sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God had put in his heart. (25) Year after year, everyone who came brought a gift - articles of silver and gold, robes, weapons and spices, and horses and mules.
Within earlier chapter-three of the book of Daniel, we see that Nebuchadnezzar built a golden statue and one that he wanted all Babylonians to worship.
NIV, Daniel 3: (1) King Nebuchadnezzar made an image of gold, sixty cubits high and six cubits wide, and set it up on the plain of Dura in the province of Babylon. (2) He then summoned the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the other provincial officials to come to the dedication of the image he had set up. (3) So the satraps, prefects, governors, advisers, treasurers, judges, magistrates and all the other provincial officials assembled for the dedication of the image that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, and they stood before it.
(4) Then the herald loudly proclaimed, “Nations and peoples of every language, this is what you are commanded to do: (5) As soon as you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, lyre, harp, pipe and all kinds of music, you must fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar has set up. (6) Whoever does not fall down and worship will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.”
In regards to both King Solomon and King Nebuchadnezzar, we might be shocked to see how much gold there was in those days and how rich these men became.
Curiously, recall when I stated that the digits of years 1593 and 1953 both add up to eighteen, and the difference between these two years is 360? Note, that if we multiply the two dimensions given to us for Nebuchadnezzar's statue, which was 60 x 6 cubits - we have the number 360. Toying around with these numbers, we see that the number eighteen is significant.
If we now scan ahead to the book of Revelation where the number of the Beast is identified, note the verse-number in question.
NIV, Revelation 13: (18) This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.
Here, Revelation reveals to us that the phrase "number of a man" is in verse eighteen. Does number eighteen merely signify that once a male teenager reaches eighteen years of age that he is a man? I inserted this little exercise by happenstance, as I thought some of you might be curious. We will follow up with this realization in due course.
As far as the Lion is concerned, I started down this path due to lions being highly-associated with Gold in the Bible. I believe that the gold-standard for much of the world's monetary-policy held up pretty well until the first world war.
Within the year 1944, the USA and 43 other countries established the Bretton Woods System. It provided for a means of ensuring world economic-stability and backing the US dollar just prior to the end of the second-world war.
This Bretton Woods system lost steam in 1971 when the USA backed out, and in the year 1976 this gold-backed system was abolished altogether. I believe that most of the currencies we use as of today, are basically fiat currencies.
As we see in later newsletters, Daniel chapter-seven is an exercise in tracking technology that comes from Europe to North America. While in North America, the technology develops further and is later distributed around the world.
In the next newsletter entitled Daniel Chapter-Seven, we will study these Beasts of Daniel (chapter-seven) further; particularly the Bear and Leopard.
